General Information

The Walk to Emmaus is grounded theologically and institutionally in The Upper Room ministry unit of the General Board of Discipleship of The United Methodist Church.

However, The Walk to Emmaus is ecumenical. The program invites and involves the participation of Christians of many denominations. Emmaus is ecumenical not only because members of many denominations participate, but because Emmaus seeks to foster Christian unity and to reinforce the whole Christian community. This is one of the great strengths and joys of the Emmaus movement.

The fact that Emmaus is ecumenical does not mean it is theologically indifferent. On the contrary, The Walk to Emmaus is designed to communicate with confidence and depth the essentials of the Christian life, while accentuating those features that Christians have traditionally held in common.

The Upper Room Walk to Emmaus is a tightly designed event that is conducted with discipline according to a manual that is universally standard. Emmaus is offered only with permission and under the guidelines of The Upper Room. This ensures a proven format and a common experience that should be trustworthy from weekend to weekend wherever Emmaus is being offered.

Each community is administered locally through its local Board of Directors. The program is administered globally through the International Emmaus office in Nashville, Tennessee, USA.

  • What can I expect from Hays Praise Emmaus?

    We are so glad you have decided to check out Hays Praise Emmaus. We are very excited to have you come and be with us. We want you to feel welcomed and at home. Here at Hays Praise Emmaus, we are on a journey together. A journey that will take us to greater depths of understanding, about the world, the Kingdom of God, and our role in bringing that Kingdom here now.


    Whether you have been a Christian your whole life or are just exploring the faith, Hays Praise Emmaus is the place to openly and authentically ask questions and feel free to grow and search. We have folks at each service to help guide you and show you around. Check out our Hays Praise Emmaus programs for youth and children. We want our youth to claim their own faith and be excited about the journey ahead. Let’s climb, together!

  • Do I have to be a member to participate in small groups or other activities?

    At Hays Praise Emmaus we don't care if you've been here 8 minutes or 8 years, everyone is welcome to be part of anything they feel called to do. We are so glad that you feel called to be a part of anything we have going on. Introduce yourself, make some friends and be a part of a movement we hope will Change the World

  • How do I get there?

    Our church is located at 1667 Hallmark Canyon Lake, TX 78133

  • What should I wear?

    Whatever you're comfortable in. Were more concerned with getting to know you than with what you wear. So come in your cowboy boots, jeans, a dress, shorts, or your favorite t-shirt. We live at the lake! Were just happy you're here!

  • Am I able to request prayer online?

    Absolutely! Our church would love to pray for you. If you are in need of prayer, click on the "Request Prayer" button in the bottom right corner of the website. Here, you have the choice to keep your request private, only for our pastors, or to be made public to the church- so that more may pray for your need. If you are looking for a church to call home, we hope you will join us at Hays Praise Emmaus
